Cooper Tires has introduced its new CS5 line with much fanfare as replacement for its popular CS4 line, and with good reason. The new CS5 tires contain four times as much silica compound as their predecessors. Far from a narrowly marketed high-performance tire, the CS5 Grand Touring and CS5 Ultra Touring tires that make up the new CS5 line are positioned as an exceptional everyday tire that fits most family vehicles.
The CS5 Ultra Touring tires feature Cooper's Wear Square indicator that allows drivers to visually approximate the remaining tread life, an advantage over the Cooper CS5 Grand touring tire.
The innovative Wear Square, which is visible on the inner and outer edge of the tread, slowly wears down with the age of the tires, providing an indication of remaining tread. For example, when drivers can see a full square, the tires are considered new. But over time, the square begins to wear and transform into new shapes. A U shape indicates about 75 percent tread life reaming while an L-shape provides drivers with an estimate that about half of the tread life remains.
When it is time to replace the tires, drivers can expect to see the letter I, which indicates only about 25 percent of thread remaining. The Wear Square is also useful in checking alignment, since non-uniform wear between inner and outer Wear Squares signals an alignment problem.
Another way the CS5 Ultra Touring tire sets itself apart from its sibling, the Grand Touring tire, is the manufacturer's Stabiledge technology, which brings greater steering precision while offering drivers a more sensitive feel for the road. The Cooper CS5 Grand Touring tires are offered as W-rated for 50,000-mile treadwear protection, as well as V- and H-rated, for 60,000-mile treadwear protection.
The tire's new generation coupled silica compound exhibits exceptional all-weather performance, laying claim to improved braking ability while reducing resistance where the rubber hits the road.
Tire stabilization is further enhanced with 3D Micro-Gauge grooves, enabling the components of the tread to interlock and stabilize the tire. Drivers will appreciate the tread pattern of the CS5 Ultra Touring tire, which helps to avoid irregular wear, enabling tires to be fully rotated from one side of the car to the other rather than just back to front.
You can count on the Cooper CS5 Ultra Touring tire to deliver real-life performance under a variety of real roadway conditions.
